Jason Kelce’s bedtime storytelling skills took an unexpected turn when one of his stories terrified his 4-year-old daughter, Elliotte Ray. Speaking on the Dec. 3 episode of his podcast New Heights, the retired NFL star revealed how his attempt to personalize the classic tale of Pinocchio with his daughter’s stuffed animal, Slothy, went horribly wrong.
Jason explained that he’d adapted the story to include Slothy, and as he recited the line, “One night, Ellie wished upon a star, and Slothy came to life,” he noticed his daughter’s wide-eyed silence. But instead of delight, the retelling left Elliotte terrified, clutching her stuffed animal for dear life. The scare didn’t stop there—wife Kylie was less than pleased. “Kylie was furious,” Jason laughed, recalling her shocked reaction: “‘What the f— is wrong with you?’”
Though Jason’s bedtime stories didn’t always go as planned, he shared that he loves singing and storytelling to his daughters, including Elliotte, Wyatt, Bennett, and baby Finnley. He’s also a fan of classic tales like Dr. Seuss and The Boy Who Cried Wolf, believing in the life lessons they teach, especially when it comes to honesty.
