Michael Bolton’s daughters have delivered a rare and deeply moving update on the singer’s health — and, against the odds, it’s filled with cautious optimism.

The 72-year-old two-time Grammy winner revealed last year that he had been diagnosed with glioblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer, after undergoing emergency surgery in December 2023 to remove a tumour from his brain. Doctors were able to remove it entirely, but the road since has been long and uncertain.

In January 2024, Bolton required a second brain operation following an infection. He later completed a full course of radiation and chemotherapy in October, and now undergoes MRI scans every two months to monitor for recurrence — a constant reality given how often glioblastoma can return.

Yet in a new interview, his daughters Isa, Holly and Taryn have shared the most hopeful news the family has offered so far.

“We’re proud and happy to update anyone who’s been following our dad’s journey that he is in very good spirits and very good health,” Isa said.
“He has a lot of challenges, and we do have great days and some tough days, but in general, he’s very strong. His mobility and cognition have been terrific. We’re in a really good place right now.”

Behind the scenes, the three sisters have become Bolton’s primary caregivers — stepping in not just emotionally, but practically, as he focuses entirely on recovery.

Taryn and her daughters now live with him full-time in his Westport, Connecticut home of more than 30 years. Isa spends three days a week there, often bringing her sons along, while Holly travels from California every month to help with hands-on care.

Bolton, who shares his daughters with ex-wife Maureen McGuire and is also a grandfather of six, described the experience as life-altering.

In a message to AARP, he admitted:

“This past year has tested me in ways I never imagined, but it’s also made me more aware of the moments that fill life with meaning — having meals with my family, hearing my grandkids laugh, stepping outside on a beautiful day and just taking it in.”

He added that his daughters’ presence has grounded him in ways he never expected:

“On the harder days, they help me stay centered; on the lighter ones, they bring out the laughter that makes everything feel possible again. They remind me of who I am and what’s worth fighting for.”

Isa also revealed that after surgery her father experienced a brief personality change — something doctors say is not uncommon after brain operations. At one point, her young son even admitted he felt scared of his grandfather.

But with yoga, physical therapy and time, she says Bolton’s warmth and humour returned.

“The relationship dynamic does shift so profoundly,” Isa explained. “You get the chance to redefine things in a new way.”

Throughout it all, the family has deliberately kept their circle small to protect Bolton’s privacy.

“We became a very small island,” Isa said.

Bolton himself ended his message with heartfelt gratitude to fans around the world:

“Your messages, prayers and kindness have reached me in moments when I needed them most. It reminds me that we’re all connected — and none of us walk through life’s challenges alone.”

Once a man who filled stadiums with his voice, Michael Bolton is now walking a far quieter road — guided by the three daughters who refuse to leave his side.
