Confusion erupted this week as I’m A Celebrity viewers speculated that Tom Read Wilson’s polished, almost theatrical voice might not be real. But now, friends, family, and colleagues of the 39-year-old star have stepped forward to end the rumours once and for all.

Tom, long known on Celebs Go Dating for his elegant speech and flamboyant charm, quickly became a standout presence in the jungle. But when he jokingly switched into a deep cockney accent while chatting with campmates, it sent the internet into a frenzy. Many wondered: was the refined RP voice an act — or was the husky, masculine tone the true one?

Adding fuel to the speculation, Tom carried the low accent into the Bush Telegraph, teasing viewers before snapping back into his usual velvety diction. Social media exploded with comments like: “Which one is real?” and “Has he been faking it this whole time?”
But now, the people closest to Tom have spoken out.
Anna Williamson, Tom’s long-time co-star on Celebs Go Dating, confirmed to The Sun that the polished voice people hear is indeed his natural one. “Everyone is seeing exactly who Tom is. There is no act,” she said. “Tom speaks as Tom speaks — that beautifully posh RP accent is truly his.”

Tom’s family also released a short message addressing the growing storm. According to a close source, they said they were “sorry for the noise and confusion” and apologised for Tom being “dragged into unnecessary media chaos,” but emphasised they had to speak up to protect him.

“They didn’t want to add more attention,” the source clarified, “but when speculation turned into accusations, they felt they had no choice but to defend someone they love.”
Anna echoed that sentiment, noting that Tom’s ability to mimic different voices — from cockney to impressions of his campmates — had simply been misinterpreted. “He’s always had a talent for accents,” she said. “It doesn’t mean his real voice is fake.”
In camp, Tom continued to delight his fellow celebrities, from serenading Ruby Wax with a sonnet to bursting into vocal scales that echoed across the site. His playful personality and theatrical streak have become part of what fans enjoy most — even if it unintentionally sparked a full-blown debate.
Beyond the humour, Tom recently admitted that he had a moment of vulnerability before entering the jungle. He broke down in a taxi while thinking of his godchildren and nephews, all of whom he sees regularly. The driver comforted him with a metaphor about climbing a daunting tree step-by-step — a moment Tom described as “kismet.”
With late arrivals Tom and Vogue Williams now fully integrated into camp life, the actor’s charm, kindness, and newly talked-about vocal range have made him one of the season’s most intriguing figures.
I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! continues tonight on ITV1 and ITVX.
