Alison Hammond has spoken with rare openness about her relationship with boyfriend David Putman, describing their bond as calm, joyful and rooted in a connection she calls “very rare.”
The This Morning star, 50, has been dating David, 28, since 2023, but has largely kept the romance out of the spotlight. In a new interview, however, Alison shared a glimpse into her private life — and it’s clear she’s deeply content.
She said their relationship is going “really, really well,” adding that David has a presence people instantly feel.
“He just has the most beautiful energy,” Alison explained. “Everyone senses it when they’re around him. I’m incredibly grateful that he chooses to spend his life with me.”
The couple are set to spend Christmas together with Alison’s son Aiden, 20, opting for a low-key celebration this year. Rather than hosting at home, the trio plan to enjoy a relaxed meal out — a choice Alison says suits them perfectly.
Reflecting on love, the Great British Bake Off host admitted it’s brought a quiet shift in her outlook.
“Being in love makes you more patient and kinder,” she said. “You always have someone you want to care for — and who cares for you in return.”
While there are no immediate wedding plans, Alison made it clear that commitment doesn’t have to come with a ring.
The couple are happy living together, and she insists she doesn’t need marriage to validate their relationship — though she added, with a smile, that if David proposed tomorrow, the answer wouldn’t be no.
Alison has also spoken playfully about David’s job as a masseuse, joking in a past interview that she used to get better massages when she was paying for them herself. Despite the humour, she has repeatedly emphasised how supportive he is of her busy television career.
“He just backs me,” she has said. “Anyone I allow into my life supports what I do and is happy for me.”
She has deliberately chosen to keep details of the relationship private, explaining that protecting David’s life outside the public eye matters deeply to her.
The age difference between them — 22 years — has occasionally drawn comment, but Alison insists it’s something she barely notices.
“On paper, people see it,” she once said. “But when they see us together, they understand. People tell me, ‘We get it now.’”
Alongside her personal happiness, Alison continues to address the scrutiny that comes with her success. She has spoken candidly about online criticism and the pressure of being highly visible in British television.
She says she’s learned to say no, to rest when needed, and to remain grounded.
“I’ve worked hard for over 22 years to be here,” she said. “I don’t let other people’s opinions define that.”
For Alison, this chapter isn’t about proving anything — to fans, critics or strangers online.
It’s simply about being loved, supported, and happy — and allowing that to be enough.
