Five decades. One legendary partnership. And a farewell that could finally turn skating royalty into real royalty.

The duo, now 66 and 67, were previously awarded MBEs in 1981 and OBEs in 2000, yet fans have long argued that wasn’t enough. A petition calling for their elevation was rejected as recently as 2023.
Now, after deciding to finally hang up their skates following 50 magical years, it seems the tide has turned.

Torvill & Dean shot to global fame after winning Olympic gold at the 1984 Winter Games, with their sultry Bolero routine still regarded as one of the most iconic performances in sporting history.
Millions more fell in love with them through ITV’s Dancing On Ice, where their chemistry has never once faded — even as the years passed.

Their bond has fascinated fans for decades.
Both are settled in other relationships — Jayne married Phil Christiansen in 1990, while Christopher has been in a relationship with fellow Dancing On Ice star Karen Barber since 2011 — yet speculation has never quite died.
In 2024, the pair shared a kiss in Sarajevo while marking 40 years since their Olympic triumph, reigniting rumours all over again.
They’ve since admitted that as teenagers, they once crossed the line — briefly considering romance before choosing their careers.
“We crossed a line for a minute,” Christopher said on the High Performance podcast.
“But we realised we were best friends — and that’s what’s got us here 50 years later.”
Jayne joked:
“We’re always asked what the secret is. We never got married.”
Christopher added: “And we didn’t sleep with each other.”

Earlier this year, the duo performed together for the final time in their hometown of Nottingham, closing the UK leg of their farewell tour Torvill & Dean: Our Last Dance.
Their routines — filled with longing looks, near-kisses and electric chemistry — felt like the closing chapter of a love story that never quite had a label.
Now, if reports are true, Britain is ready to honour them at last.
Not just as Olympic champions.
Not just as TV legends.
But as Sir Christopher Dean and Dame Jayne Torvill — the skating royalty who turned friendship into history.
