Ice-dance icons Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean are reportedly on the brink of receiving the ultimate honour — a damehood and knighthood in the King’s New Year Honours — crowning one of the most extraordinary partnerships in British sporting history.
The duo, now 66 and 67, were previously awarded MBEs in 1981 and OBEs in 2000, yet fans have long argued that wasn’t enough. A petition calling for their elevation was rejected as recently as 2023.

“But we realised we were best friends — and that’s what’s got us here 50 years later.”
Jayne joked:
