Ruby Wax has finally lifted the lid on one of I’m A Celebrity’s most talked-about mysteries — revealing exactly what was said behind the scenes about a possible romance between Aitch and Shona McGarty.

The 72-year-old comedian, who became the fifth contestant to be voted off the show on Wednesday night, admitted she was “devastated” after bookmakers had tipped her to make it all the way to the final. But since leaving the Jungle, Ruby has been brutally honest about the so-called “showmance” that had fans buzzing.

Viewers — and even fellow campmates — had become convinced a romance was blossoming between the 25-year-old rapper and the former EastEnders actress, 34, especially after Aitch admitted he had a “soft spot” for Shona following her recent split from fiancé David Bracken.
But Ruby has revealed the truth was very different.
“Oh, he’s not her type at all,” Ruby told the Daily Mail. “She likes a hunky man — bigger men — so that she feels female. That’s what she told me.”
She added: “He wasn’t on the list at all. And then there’s their age difference.”

Ruby explained that she personally spoke to both Aitch and Shona about the possibility of romance — joking that she wanted to see them “get married” — but both were very clear that it simply wasn’t happening.
“I asked both of them separately,” she said. “And it was a no-go.”

Since returning from her 19-day stint in the Australian Jungle, Ruby was pictured outside her five-star Marriott hotel wearing a Zara blouse and accompanied by her TV producer husband of 37 years, Ed Bye, who had flown out to Queensland to support her and greet her at the famous I’m A Celeb bridge.
Despite observations from Vogue Williams and Tom Read Wilson that there appeared to be a spark, Ruby firmly shut down the speculation.
“No,” she said. “I just thought — how convenient, they both sing. But she said that’s not her type. She wasn’t interested.”

She added: “And he wasn’t interested either. I think he just liked her. She’s into big guys.”
The revelations will come as a blow to thousands of fans online who had been hoping the pair would become Jungle’s first official romance of the series — especially as both were recently single.
Aitch, whose real name is Harrison Armstrong, split from girlfriend Lois Cottam, 25, just weeks before entering the Jungle. Meanwhile, Shona’s engagement to Irish musician David Bracken, 38, also ended shortly before she jetted to Australia.
Early in the series, the Manchester rapper told campmate Angry Ginge at the creek that he had a “soft spot” for Shona — sending viewers into a frenzy. Their close bond only intensified when they were exiled to Doomsville alongside Martin Kemp, Kelly Brook and Tom Read Wilson.
During their time there, fans watched as the pair shared a playful close-contact pillow fight and even locked eyes while discussing each other’s appearance — moments that many believed confirmed a romance was brewing.
But Ruby has now definitively shut down those rumours, confirming it was nothing more than a close friendship.
Meanwhile, the star also admitted she was heartbroken not to reach the final stages of the competition.
“I feel the public have let me down,” she confessed. “I’m very upset. I just want to be back in there — they’re my family.”
Producers were reportedly “over-the-moon” at the idea of a Jungle romance, and even longtime host Ant McPartlin publicly encouraged it.
“I love it,” he said. “I just want to find love in the jungle.”
However, fans will be disappointed to learn that the relationship between Aitch and Shona was, as their families predicted, purely a brother-and-sister-style bond.
Ruby signed off by reiterating how emotional her exit had been, insisting she still feels deeply connected to her fellow campmates.
“I just want to be back in there,” she said. “They’re my family.”
I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! continues Thursday at 9pm on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
